1.33 mln new ***** Japanese celebrate coming-of-age day

TOKYO, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Up to 680,000 men and 650,000 women, who turned 20 years old as of Jan. 1, celebrated the Coming-of-Age Day Monday at ceremonies across Japan.
According to the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry, the new ***** population at the legal *****hood age of 20 shrank by about 20,000 to 1.33 million, down for the second straight year to reach a record low.
Of Japan's total population, the new *****s accounts for some 1.04 percent, down 0.02 percentage point on a year-on-year basis to hit a record low for three years in a row.
Low birth rate is believed to be the key factor behind the decline in the new ***** population.
