ANKARA, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday urged the United Nations (UN) to take action regarding the Middle East tension.
Erdogan made the remarks at a meeting of his ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party in the Turkish capital of Ankara.
Erdogan said that the UN and the Security Council should assume a stance and push Israel to abide by recent UN resolution aiming to end the incidents in Gaza.
"Around 835 Gazan lost their lives, and 3,300 people were wounded in the attacks in the last two weeks," said Erdogan.
Erdogan said that Turkey had exerted efforts to put an end to this tragedy and was still in a sincere effort to end the war in Gaza and stop bloodshed and tears.
"Turkey continues its initiatives to end the embargo and dispatch basic humanitarian needs to Gaza," Erdogan said.
Erdogan once again called for an end to attacks on Gaza, an immediate cease-fire and lifting of embargoes.
The Turkish prime minister said that his special envoy was participating in a meeting in Egypt and Turkey would take steps according to a decision to come out of that meeting.
