Are you still using alcohol lamps to disinfect the biosafety cabinet？


As a first level safety isolation barrier for laboratory biosafety, biosafety cabinets are also key safety protection equipment in laboratories. They are negative pressure air purification exhaust cabinets that prevent the escape of hazardous biological aerosols during operation. They can be used in various biosafety laboratories for experimental diagnosis and the operation of infectious biological materials such as primary cultures, bacterial strains, and other detection samples. They have the function and function of protecting operators, experimental environments, and experimental samples. With the continuous improvement of technology, biosafety cabinets are widely used in medical, disease prevention and control, blood collection and supply, food hygiene, biopharmaceuticals, environmental monitoring, and various biological laboratories.
We know that after long-term use, biological safety cabinets need to be disinfected. In early experiments, we usually used alcohol lamps to disinfect the equipment. However, in recent years, with the improvement of experimental quality and requirements, as well as the consideration of safety hazards for experimental personnel, it has been clearly stipulated that alcohol disinfection cannot be used in the use of biological safety cabinets. At the same time, the use of organic and alcohol lamps that produce open flames is prohibited in biological safety cabinets. Continuous burning of open flames can interfere with gas laminar flow, cause the filter layer to age, and endanger the normal protective performance of the safety cabinet for operators and operations. Alcohol lamps may burst, endangering the overall safety of the safety cabinet and laboratory. Therefore, some relatively complete laboratories use specialized sterilizers for biological safety cabinets instead of alcohol lamps for disinfection. Sterilization.
In use, if disinfection is required for the biosafety cabinet, all items, including equipment, inside the cabinet must be surface cleaned and removed from the cabinet after the work is completed, as residual culture media may provide conditions for microbial growth. The inner surface of the safety cabinet should be cleaned before and after each use. To wipe the surface and inner wall of the workbench with disinfectant, the disinfectant used should be able to kill all microorganisms that may exist inside the cabinet. At the end of the day's work, surface cleaning treatment should be carried out, that is, a comprehensive wipe should be applied to the workbench, all sides, back, and inside of the glass. 70% alcohol can be used, which is an effective disinfectant for the target organism. If using this corrosive disinfectant, it is necessary to wipe it again with sterilized water. It is recommended that the work cabinet be in working condition during cleaning and disinfection. If it is not in working condition, it should run for 5 minutes to clear the gas inside the safety cabinet before it is closed.
