Clean benches, fume hoods and biological safety cabinets

Many users do not know the difference between clean benches, fume hoods and biological safety cabinets. There are many misunderstandings about this, and we can define it based on the principle.
Biological safety cabinet-protect personnel and samples
Biological safety cabinets are designed to protect workers, laboratory environment and experimental products to prevent exposure to these operations during operations with infectious materials such as original cultures, strains and diagnostic specimens. It produces infectious aerosols and spills. The operating area is under negative pressure and only needs to be ventilated to the outside. Of course, the pathogens are not directly discharged outside, but are filtered on the top of the biological safety cabinet on the equipment. In terms of exhaust air volume, it can be divided into 30% external exhaust and 100% external exhaust.

Purification Workbench——Protect the sample
The clean bench is designed to protect the sample or product. By blowing vertical or horizontal laminar air in the work area, the test item or product will be contaminated by dust or bacteria outside the work area. Once the microbial sample is placed in the work area, the laminar air will cause the air with the microbial medium to blow to the front desk personnel.
The fume hood is designed to remove corrosive chemical gases and toxic fumes during chemical experiments. Discharge harmful gases, and use laboratory equipment for cleaning and emission during the experiment. Because it is not equipped with a HEPA filter, the fume hood cannot effectively remove microbial media. The microbial samples placed in the laminar flow fume hood will spread into the storage tank and contaminate the laboratory environment.
