Product Description

Audio Precision System Two-2322 Audio Precision System Two-2322

Audio Precision SYS-2322A Audio Analyzer, System Two, Dual Domain w/ DSP

Product Overview

The Audio Precision System 2 is a computer controlled integrated multifunction audio testing instrument. The System Two combines industry leading performance with automation and ease of use for both design and production test environments. The System Two is based on the System One, the recognized standard in audio testing, with over 5,000 units in service worldwide. They AP System 2 is DSP equipped. It measures amplitude, level, ratio, crosstalk, bandpass amplitude, frequency, phase, THD+N, DSP modules for generation and analysis of multitone signals, FFT, spectrum analysis, waveform display, MLS (maximum length sequence), quasi-anechoic acoustic testing and objective testing of low bit rate coders.

The System Two includes extremely high performance analog generation and analysis hardware for measurement of analog signals to the highest level of precision. This performance is not available from synthesized generators or DSP only analyzers found in some other audio testers. The analog hardware generator and analog hardware analyzer for analog domain devices are separate and independent from DSP modules that stimulate and analyze digital domain devices. Control is fully integrated to produce sweeps and graphs in either or both domains (Dual Domain). For most audio measurements, the Audio Precision System Two never passes analog or digital domain signals through converters, but generates and measures in the "natural" domain of the device under test.

Key analog generator specifications include spurious and harmonic specifications of -120 dB and flatness of ±0.008 dB. Analog analyzer specs feature residual noise of less than 1 microvolt (-118 dBu), flatness of ±0.008 dB, residual THD+N of -108 dB (0.0004%), and FFT analysis following analog notch filter down to -140 dB. In the digital domain, signals are pure to -140 dBFS, THD + N residuals are below -140 dB, and FFT dynamic range and accuracy extend to -140 dBFS.

The System Two is designed for use from an external computer, resulting in advantages in cost and upgradability. Portability is not compromised since the System Two can be controlled from small notebook computers via the computer’s PCMCIA(PC Card) interface. The System Two Dual Domain features a very complete capability for testing the AES/EBU and consumer digital audio interfaces and can verify every performance parameter specified in AES3, the governing document for professional serial digital audio transmission. The AP System Two provides the most complete set of audio test and measurement capabilities available. Signals generated (some require options) in both analog and digital domains include sinewaves, squarewaves, white and pink noise, burst USASI noise, and SMPTE/DIN, CCIF and DlM/TIM IMD signals. IMD tests may expose shortcomings in audio devices which are not evident with the single-tone stimulus of harmonic distortion techniques. On DSP equipped units, an additional wide range of useful test signals are digitally generated for use independently at the analog and digital outputs of the System Two. These include Multitone signals for FASTTEST, Stereo Sine, Dual Sine (twin-tone), Variable Phase (sine), MLS (Maximum Length Sequence), arbitrary waveforms and polarity. Additional analog-generated signals may include bandpassed noise and (via the DCX-127) two ± 10V dc sources. For units with digital domain capability (already incorporated into the System 2), signals generated purely for use in the digital domain include monotonicity, J-Test, walking ones and zeros, constant value, and sine+offset. All digitally generated audio signals may be dithered with any of the standard dither techniques. Simulated data impairment, to test the tolerance of digital devices to degraded signals, includes injected jitter and, at the AES/EBU digital outputs, controllable amplitude, variable rise/fall times, a 1000m cable simulation, and both normal mode and common mode noise signals. Professional or Consumer Status bytes are independently settable for each channel. Validity bits are controllable, and sample rates may be synchronized to an external NTSC, PAL, or SECAM video signal or to any reference frequency between 8 kHz and 10 MHz.
