Oscilloscope sets bandwidth record, on all four channels
Ever since the announcement of the first 100 GHz real-time oscilloscope more than five years ago, we knew that record would eventually topple. This week, Keysight has taken over first place with the announcement of the UXR series of 10-bit oscilloscopes. Keysight announced the technology in 2016 and now we see the results.
The UXR series consists of 21 models (two and four channels) with bandwidths from 13 GHz to 100 GHz in three groups:

13 GHz, 16 GHz, 20 GHz, 25 GHz, and 33 GHz with four 3.5 mm inputs, 128 Gsamples/s on all inputs. Effective number of bits (ENOB) is 6.8.

40 GHz, 50 GHz, 59 GHz, and 70 GHz with two or four 1.85 mm inputs, 256 Gsamples/s sample rate on all channels, vertical sensitivity from 1 mV/div to 500 mV/div, ENOB 5.4.

80 GHz, 100 GHz, and 110 GHz with two or four 1.0 mm inputs, vertical sensitivity from 1 mV/div to 500 mV/div, ENOB 5.0.
According to Keysight, all models are upgradable to 110 GHz. If you upgrade within one of the three groups, you need only a software license. If, however, you need to upgrade bandwidth across these groups—say 33 GHz to 40 GHz—you'll need a hardware upgrade for the analog front end. In addition, two-channel models are upgradable to four channels.
The UXR series provides each instrument's full bandwidth on all channels. That includes 110 GHz. Teledyne LeCroy's 100 GHz model provides full bandwidth on one channel only. Furthermore, Keysight has taken the sample-rate lead at 256 Gsamples/s. All models feature 10-bit ADCs. All models come with 200 Msamples of acquisition memory standard, with 2 Gsamples maximum.
Keysight has added a self-calibration feature to all UXR series oscilloscopes. Calibration modules are available for each of the three sizes of input connectors, but will function up to 100 GHz. With the modules, you can perform a calibration in your lab under the environmental condition where you use the oscilloscope. While these modules can provide factory-certified calibration, if you need to verify that the oscilloscope meets full specification, you'll still have to return it for service.
Keysight offers several software packages for its oscilloscopes such as for jitter analysis. All UXR series oscilloscopes are software compatible with Keysight's S, V, and Z-Series oscilloscopes. You can run all Infiniium apps on the UXR series.
The highest bandwidth range of the UXR series lets you test and troubleshoot the latest communications standards such as 802.3 400 Gbps electrical and optical Ethernet. The high real-time bandwidth of the UXR series, combined with Keysight's optical modulation analyzer, lets you view waveforms that use coherent modulation.
