Novartis recently brought 'diabetes to light' when it united with the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) by lighting its India headquarters at Worli in blue on World Diabetes Day.
India is often referred to as the diabetes capital of the world with every fourth diabetic being Indian. There are currently 41 million people with diabetes in India and this number is expected to rise to 57.2 million by 2025.
It is because of the very serious nature of this disease that IDF and its partners, including Novartis are working hard to raise awareness of diabetes among those who are at risk and their families. "The World Diabetes Day campaign affords everyone the opportunity to make a difference. As Indians we need to come together to strengthen the voice that can advocate for improved care for the more than 41 million people living in our country with diabetes and the many more who are at risk in India and worldwide," said Dr Indu Shahani, Sheriff of Mumbai, as she lit a symbolic blue candle and swathe the Novartis India headquarters in blue light.
